Where your renewal is processed
Dubai residence visas renew through the GDRFA (General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs); the other emirates renew through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP). The steps look similar but the portals, timing and document checks differ — filing in the wrong channel is a common cause of rejection.
The renewal steps
- File review: passport validity, sponsor status and insurance are checked before anything is submitted
- Medical fitness test at an approved centre (blood test and chest X-ray)
- Emirates ID renewal application, with biometrics where requested
- Health insurance confirmed active — mandatory for issuing the residency
- Application submitted in GDRFA or ICP and followed until the e-residency is issued
Renewing online vs using an agency
Straightforward files can be renewed through the GDRFA app or ICP portal. Where an agency earns its fee is everything non-standard: expired grace periods, sponsor changes, absconding flags, insurance gaps, name mismatches, or a rejection you do not understand. We diagnose the file first and tell you honestly whether you need us.
Urgent renewals
